As of 1st April 2023, the NHS now requires all suppliers of goods, services and works bidding for new contracts above £5 million per annum to have a published Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) in place, in line with the NHS net zero supplier roadmap and the guidance published by NHS England in February 2023. This requirement sets the foundations from which NHS suppliers can play their key role in supporting the NHS to become a net zero health service by 2045.
Please note, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises (VCSEs) are in scope of the April 2023 CRP requirements and will need to provide a valid CRP for in-scope procurements from 1st April 2023. While the NHS strongly encourages all suppliers to prepare for the roadmap milestones, we will also account for the specific barriers that some may face. Specific support is outlined in the “Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises (VCSEs)” section of the Carbon Reduction Plan Requirement guidance.
Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) Checking Service Extended
NHS England is running a free CRP Checking Service open to all suppliers. Due to high demand, the service will be extended until the end of September 2023. Please note, although we aim to provide feedback as soon as possible, turnaround will be variable based on team availability. We ask that you submit your CRP well in advance of needing it as part of a commercial process. If you would like to use this free service, please submit your CRP to [email protected].
If you have specific questions, please contact the NHS England Sustainable Procurement and Supply Chain team – [email protected].
