- Trade Commissioner for Latin America visits Yorkshire to see how region is transforming healthcare
- Visit is an opportunity for healthcare and life sciences sector in Yorkshire to engage with Latin American markets
The new Trade Commissioner for Latin America, Joanna Crellin, visited Yorkshire this week to see first hand how the region is transforming the future of healthcare and to meet experts from the healthcare and life sciences industry to learn how the UK can engage with Latin American health markets.
The visit, which has the potential to be a huge boost for the Yorkshire economy, was partly hosted by, Medilink North of England, the body dedicated to growing the Healthcare Technology and Life Sciences sector and offering advice to the region on trade and investment on behalf of the Department of International Trade (DIT).
Joanna Crellin met with Medilink North of England’s International Manager, Tom Elliott who works on behalf of the DIT supporting and advising the healthcare and life sciences sector in the North of England. Tom Elliott advises healthcare companies on how to take products to worldwide markets in order to take their life changing health care products to global markets and boost the industry and economy here in the UK.
Tom Elliott, International Manager at Medilink said: “It was a huge honour to welcome the Trade Commissioner for Latin America, Joanna Crellin to Yorkshire on behalf of Medilink North of England and the Department for International Trade this week. During her visit I was able to speak to her about healthcare and life sciences organisations within the region and how they can better engage with markets in Latin American and the Caribbean. Engaging in these markets would be an enormous boost for the Yorkshire economy.
“The visit comes ahead of the Florida International Medical Exhibition (FIME), the largest medical trade fair in America which takes place in Orlando in July. At the exhibition, Medilink will host all UK healthcare and life science organisations – meeting with Joanna ahead of this exhibition is a fantastic way to introduce ourselves to the Latin American and Caribbean markets which will both have a huge presence at FIME.”
During her visit, Joanna Crellin also visited Medilink North of England member, Brandon Medical. The award winning global company specialise in producing medical lighting such as operating theatre lamps and AV systems to hospitals.
Medilink North of England, the membership-based organisation, hope this visit will forge strong relationships between healthcare and life science in the Yorkshire and the Latin American and Caribbean healthcare markets.
Trade Commissioner for Latin America, Joanna Crellin said: “I am delighted that I got the chance to visit Yorkshire this week and meet with representatives from Medilink and Brandon Medical. Both companies are truly transforming the healthcare sector here in Yorkshire. It would be fantastic to work with the region and bring trade and investment in healthcare and life sciences to the Latin American.”
