Medilink members from across the North of England were invited to contribute their thoughts on potential new funding products, at a workshop held in Leeds with key influencers from the Government’s innovation agency - Innovate UK.
It was announced as part of the Government’s ‘Comprehensive Spending Review’ statement last year that £165m of Innovate UK grant funding would be transferred to other funding products; loans being cited as one possibility.
The team at Innovate UK subsequently engaged with major stakeholders to determine what sort of products would work - they were particularly keen to secure direct input from companies.
Medilink invited twenty CEOs from member companies, selected from the Medical Technology, Digital and Diagnostic sectors to a facilitated workshop led by Nigel Walker, Head of New Financial Products at Innovate UK. Individual ‘break-out’ groups were facilitated by Kevin Kiely (Medilink CEO), Nick Rodgers (Chairman of Medilink in the South East) ), Patrick Trotter (Medilink Innovation & Commercialisation Manager) and Nick Bassett (Lead Technologist, Medicines & Healthcare, Innovate UK).
Kevin Kiely said, “Providing a voice for Medilink members to influence national developments is an important role for us, and our strong relationships with Government agencies provides the basis on which we can do this. Our member companies clearly enjoyed the networking and sharing experiences of raising finance and the Innovate UK team valued the quality input that they received on the day.”
